Preventative Dentistry

New Ways to diagnose cavities early and prevent cavities from starting

Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth for the rest of your life. The emphasis of our practice is heavily on dental prevention. In order to maintain healthy attractive teeth, the earliest possible care is essential. The prevention of dental disease is usually less costly and more comfortable than its repair. Preventive dentistry is also far more enjoyable for all concerned!

Advances in technology and science to allow us at Corson Dental to treat decay early or even before it starts.

The DIAGNOdent laser caries detection aids in the detection of decay, particularly in questionable stained grooves on the tops and sides of molar teeth. The device’s ability to see into occlusal pits and fissures enables us to treat or monitor sub-surface caries lesions with confidence. Even very small lesions are detected at the earliest stage, enabling you to protect and preserve the tooth substance.

The RONDOflex plus 360 air abrasion system is a powerful yet gentle method of removing decay from small areas without the need for drilling, or an injection, without noise, without vibration and without an unpleasant sensation in the mouth: it is particularly suitable for sensitive patients, children and young people. It is the perfect tool for preserving healthy tooth structure while carrying out minimal intervention and preventative dentistry.

The CariFree® treatment antibacterial mouth rinses plus follow-up maintenance mouthwash is a system designed to reduce the bacterial levels on your teeth, giving you a better chance of avoiding future dental decay. It’s that simple.

Tooth decay (cavities) is caused by a bacterial infection on the teeth. CariFree® employs advanced science and technology to easily identify and treat the bacterial infection and promote oral health. Some people seem to brush their teeth regularly, eat healthily, and still keep developing new cavities. Sound familiar? This system can help reverse the cycle.

CariFree® Treatment Rinse

A two-part treatment rinse that kills the harmful destructive bacteria on your teeth. It has an elevated pH that is designed to offset the acidic condition of the infection.

CariFree® Maintenance Rinse

Designed to create an environment in your mouth which prevents the destructive bacteria from re-establishing itself. It also has an elevated pH which promotes a healthy oral environment.

The Dental Hygienist is one of the important professionals who contribute to your oral health team. She helps you maintain healthy supporting tissues as an integral part of any dental treatment. Hygienists can educate patients about the health of their mouths and provide options for improving and maintaining oral health. Hygienists have particular expertise in the removal of hard and soft deposits on teeth, which can prove harmful to the supporting structures of the teeth.

The hygienist is also responsible for fresh breath therapies. Most cases of bad breath (Halitosis) are caused by the bacteria in the mouth and on the tongue. One of the most common causes for persistent bad breath is the presence of gum disease. Gum disease is also one of the leading causes of tooth loss among adults and may not present with any other obvious symptoms. A gum health check is essential.

The hygienist is also trained in the recognition of pathological changes in the mouth and in the referral of these patients. With changes in oral disease patterns, improving dental health awareness, and with more people retaining their teeth to an older age, there is an ever-increasing demand for the care provided by dental hygiene professionals.

It's not just how skillful the dentist is that matters, it's what they're like as a person too. You expect your dentist to be competent - and not hurt you ! - but are they friendly, nice to be with, or just cold and efficient. It really helps to get that little bit of human contact, to have a laugh together perhaps...and go away feeling good...which I certainly haven't had with many dentists ; but visiting Corson Dental is almost fun ! Strange but true...
